Clubs and Teams

 

Central has a variety of extra-curricular activities for students. We have an excellent reputation for academic and co-curricular achievement. We urge you to take advantage of the opportunities available at Central. There is a high correlation between involvement in school activities and success at school.

HOUSE SYSTEM
All the students entering Central are assigned to one of the four intramural houses. They are Alpha, Delta, Kappa and Sigma.
All activities in which a student participates, both intramural and extramural (school teams, choir, clubs, etc.) count towards both individual and total house points. Students who accumulate 150, 250 and 350 house points receive minor, major and honour awards.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS
Intramural sports are held at noon hour on appointed days. There is a variety of sports and it doesn’t matter how good you are because these games a purely for fun!

DRAMA CLUB
This is one of the largest clubs at Central with many students signing up to either act, do lighting or sound, sew costumes, put on makeup or work backstage during productions. The club has produced shows including classics such as “West Side Story”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Once Upon A Mattress”, and the musical “Grease”.

THE OUTLOOK (Yearbook)
The Outlook staff working under an editor and an assistant editor plan and put together the yearbook. Being on the Outlook staff can be a lot of work but it is very rewarding when your yearbook comes back. Everyone is welcome as there is always something to do.

THE CLARION (Newspaper)
The Central Clarion is published several times a year. We need people who enjoy writing as well as artists and typists. The newspaper is a very popular feature.

JAZZ BAND
This is open to band students only. Auditions may be required to form balanced instrumentation and voicing.

MIXED VOCAL JAZZ / VOCAL JAZZ

These are open to all band and choir students. Auditions are necessary and take place in September. Students who participate in these groups will receive credits.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND GOVERNMENT
Student activities are organized by the Student Leadership Council (SLC). This council consists of committees whose chairperson’s report to the school president at a weekly meeting. Any student may participate on a committee. The students of Central elect the school President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer.

CENTRAL ART WORKS

This club is open to students interested in art. Activities include school and community murals and other extra-curricular activities. All students are welcome.

CENTRAL TECHNOLOGY CLUB
This club is open to all students who are interested in working with computer technologies. Activities include graphic and web design, digital video editing and computer programming. No prior experience is necessary to become involved.
